Major thrust of CTD/SESS is on development and dissemination of viable technology packages and replicable models for pro-poor Rural Enterprises in different sectors spanning the entire innovation chain comprising technology generation, productionization, capacity-building and management/organization. CTD/SESS also engages in policy advocacy, campaigns and community-level interventions in public health. With the above focus CTD/SESS:
· conducts participatory action-research and technology development in different sectors, mostly at its own Field Station in Sahaspur, Dehradun District, Uttarakhand
· transfers viable/replicable technology packages to ARTISANS TECHNOLOGIES (a Section 8 Company promoted by CTD/SESS and registered under the Companies Act of 1955) for commercialization and dissemination
· supports Rural Enterprises in different technology sectors initially set up by it and now run by Artisans Technologies in Dehradun Dt, Uk
· supports and facilitates turnkey and other consultancy services by Artisans Technologies to user groups and development agencies covering feasibility studies, project design, project commissioning and management, training, trouble-shooting and hand-holding towards sustainability for rural enterprises and relevant technology packages
· undertakes applied social science research, studies/surveys, monitoring/evaluation studies
· engages in nationwide action programmes, campaigns and advocacy in public health
· works throughout India on its own and/or in partnership with a wide network of NGOs
· has collaborative linkages with several S&T Institutions
